Amy A. Letter to my younger self.

Dear younger self,

I wish I knew then what I know now. But, that’s not that point is it? If I knew everything at your age then there would be no learning, no challenges, no achievements and no success. So, with this, no matter what you seem to think, you don’t need to have everything figured out now.

You will soon learn that the challenges and struggles you are going through, and will go through, will make you an even stronger person and will give you the courage to do things in the future. It may seem like you’re facing impossible challenges right now, but you can do it and you will get through it. You’ll continue to face these throughout your life and they will make you a better person because of them. Anything worth having is worth fighting for, without the lows you will experience, you’ll never understand or appreciate the highs and the success and achievement you feel from overcoming your challenges.

Know that people will come in and out of your life. While this will leave you feeling very sad and lost at the time, losing contact with close friends, know that its a natural part of life. It’s okay to grow apart from people you thought you’d be close to your whole life, people lead different lives and do different things, and that’s okay. You don’t need to blame yourself or anyone for it, it’s no ones fault – it just is.

Its okay to have different interests and hobbies than everyone around you. It’s okay to be different. Whatever you think, you don’t need to go out every night or every weekend just because it seems the ‘right’ thing to do because all your friends and everybody else are doing it. You don’t need to love or do certain things to get validation from others. Remember that its your life – do what makes you happy and the right people will love you for it and stand by your side.

The people who you know are there for you, the people who you know will always be by your side no matter what, the people who you love profoundly, love them with all your heart. Appreciate them and cherish them and tell them that you love them everyday.

I’m going to quote this to you, you know it, its your favourite one:

”When you start doubting yourself, remember everything that you have faced, all the battles you have won and all the fears you have overcome.”

Remember this, tell yourself it, live by it.

I know everything seems complicated and overwhelming right now but just know – it is worth it. Everything you are doing and fighting against is worth it. It does get better. You’ll find that you can’t control everything that happens, you can’t avoid challenges and sometimes unexpected things do happen. Accept that these are a part of life, you’ll never stop facing challenges but that’s fine.

Find your calm in the midst of all the chaos and just know, you can.
